Expected Bleeding Timeline
- Hours 1–6 after Misoprostol: Cramping and heavy bleeding typically begin within 1 to 4 hours. You will pass blood clots, some of which may be the size of a lemon or small plum. This is when the pregnancy tissue is expelled.
- Days 1–7: Bleeding gradually reduces to a level similar to a normal menstrual period, with mild cramping manageable by ibuprofen.
- Weeks 2–4: Light spotting or brown discharge is common for 2 to 4 weeks until your uterus fully heals and your natural menstrual cycle resets.
When to Seek Urgent Medical Care: If you soak through two or more maxi sanitary pads per hour for two hours in a row, or if you pass lemon-sized clots continuously for more than two hours accompanied by dizziness, seek emergency medical care immediately.
